Our Mission
Greetings, I'm Brigette Brantley.
An educator based in NYC, my news interview became viral during the #BlackLivesMatter protests following the tragic murder of George Floyd.
Da People's Assembly is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering communities of color through mutual aid, community events, and social justice organizing.
My goal as a passionate educator with over a decade of experience was to teach students of color a variety of topics not covered in the traditional curriculum, including financial literacy, Black history, healthy relationships, home economics, politics, and mental and emotional well-being. As a community, we advocate for a more holistic approach to education. This approach acknowledges the additional hardships that students of color face, which are often overlooked by the public education system and society at large. We must address the challenges students may face. We must use education as a tool to help empower and heal them in order to prepare them for the professional world and higher education.
Covid has left a high number of students in the Bronx with online education, missing out on important bonding with peers and classroom experiences. Through safety, play, celebration, and joy, we hope to fill that gap by providing support to students and parents.
Our company has hosted numerous community engagement events and content, including the 4th annual Community Day Back to School drive. This year, we gave away bookbags and tablets with free internet access and hosted the first DPA Peacemaker basketball tournament. For the community, I believe I am doing my fair share
Our organization strives to end racism every day by promoting equity, equality, social justice, and freedom. It will take time to eliminate these inequities, but we can work together in solidarity to improve the system as a whole
